THIS STREET IS ILLUMINATED BY SEVEN LEDPOWERED GATES WITH EACH OF THEM THEMED ON THE ‘VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL’

LUCKNOW :For the past few years, this street has held the distinction of lighting up Durga Puja celebrations.

The stretch between Shubham Cinema and Lal Bagh church on Cantt Road is illuminated by seven LED-powered gates with each of them themed on the ‘victory of good over evil’.

The grand display of lights on the 50-ft-tall ‘Welcome Gate’ depicts the story of how Goddess Durga killed demon Mahisasur!

The last gate, also 50-ft-tall, near Lalbagh Church is themed on Buddha and his message of love, peace and harmony.

Buddha here means the supreme intellect within you that guides you to choose between right and wrong.

In between the two big gates, there are five more depicting cartoon characters and wild animals to attract children.

The Kali Bari Temple Trust roped in expert electricians of Chandan Nagar district in West Bengal for the illumination, which went live on Monday.

“The works also try to explore the concept of live and let live,” said Bijon of Chandan Nagar Electricals who came from West Bengal.

While these gates were installed last month, the lighting arrangements were done in seven days’ time with 10 workers working for long hours.

“The aim was to make devotees, especially the younger generation aware as to how the Goddess restored peace by killing the demon,” said Gautam Bhattacharya, president of Kali Bari Temple Trust.

The temple itself is more than 150 year old now, he added.

The Kali Bari temple invited Syed Yawar Hussain, corporator of Jagdish Chandra Bose ward, for the inauguration of the illumination.

The organisers claimed they took permission from district authorities for lighting up the entire stretch of 300 metres.

This is not the first time Kali Bari Temple undertook such grand illumination.

In 2016, the temple installed gates dedicated to the Indian Army that carried out ‘Surgical Strikes’ on terror camps across the LoC, after 19 soldiers were killed in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
