Stir hits teaching in govt schools
LUCKNOW Teaching was hampered in a number of UP government primary and upper primary schools here as teachers staged a protest, demanding restoration of their old pension on Monday. Para teachers (shiksha mitras) tried to run the schools in the absence of the teachers and look after students of five classes.
“There was a complete mess as most of our teachers went to take part in the protest. They left the school early in the day. It was quite difficult. I somehow managed to run the school, had to distribute mid day meal and run classes,” said a government school para teacher who did not wish to be identified.
Most of the schools remained closed while a barely few functioned. In several schools, teachers sent the students home and locked the gate. In one school, a notice was displayed that school was closed for the day after distribution of mid-day meal.
At Jia Mau in Lucknow, students of an upper primary school were shifted to a primary school. When the primary school teachers went to take part in the demonstration, the responsibility fell on shiksha mitras to run the school.
Basic shiksha adhikari Amar Kant Singh said instructions were given that no schools should be kept closed.
“But we have heard that there were some issues in a few schools. I have asked the block education officers to submit a detailed report by Tuesday. Action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
