Techkriti’s TOSC winners, runners-up to visit ISRO, BARC
KANPUR:: In the silver jubilee edition of its annual technical and entrepreneurial bonanza, ‘Techkriti-2019’, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) will organise a Techkriti Open School Championship (TOSC).
While the winners will get a guided tour of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the runners- up will get a chance to visit the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
According to organisers Abhishek Gupta and Suyash Agarwal, the TOSC will focus on innovation and pragmatism among school students while dealing with the real life problems. It will also aim at strengthening the mental aptitude, logic and sense of scrutiny among school students and provide a platform to build fundamental expertise, knowledge and to exercise coordination skills among them.
The championship consists of two phases in which the students are required to form a team
THE TOSC WILL FOCUS ON INNOVATION AND PRAGMATISM AMONG SCHOOL STUDENTS
which will consist of two members. The registration fee for a team is Rs300.
The first phase of the championship will be conducted in both English and Hindi languages and is open to students of Class IX to Class XII. The students will be divided into two pools. Pool A and Pool B.
Pool A will consist of students of Classes IX and X, while Pool B will consist of students of Class XI and XII.
The first round will consist of a 90-minute written examination based on objective questions on mental aptitude, puzzles and general awareness. This year, Round One will take place in various cities across the country including Kanpur, Mumbai, Kota, Gwalior and other cities on October 21. The results will be declared on November 1, 2018.
Fifty teams from each pool will be called to IIT-K for the next round. Phase two is scheduled for December 23, they added. This will comprise a variety of competitive activities which will not only decide the winner but will also help participants explore and enhance their cognitive and analytical skills. Also, there will be various exhibitions, technical workshops and talks by teachers of IIT-K.
Gold, silver and bronze medals and smart watches will be given to runner ups, backpacks for the second runner ups, a gold and silver medal and bronze medals for three top teams and various other awards will be given away. e-certificates, participation certificates, trophies for 10 teams from each pool and gold medals to the city with the most certificates of merit in phase two will be given.
There are prizes for the school as a whole too. These include the Best School Award which will be given to the school having the most number of participants. Details can be found on the website http://tosc.techkriti.org, said Abhishek and Suyash.
