4 students hurt in attack over chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’

VARANASI: : Four students were injured after they were allegedly attacked by another group of students armed with canes and sticks at the gate of Gandhi Mohammad Ali Memorial Inter College, Bilthara Road, in Ballia, on Monday, over a controvers­y relating to the voicing of Vande Matram and Bharat Mata ki Jai, police said.

Police said that student Anuj Narayan said that some people visited the college on October 5 and asked if the college objects to Bharat Mata ki Jai being voiced. According to the police, Narayan told these persons that action is taken if students voice Bharat Mata ki Jai.

Narayan alleged that enraged by his statement, the college administra­tion instigated few students against him and his friends. Equipped with sticks and canes, the group of students attacked Naryan, Rajat Kumar Sonu, Navnit Kumar and Abhishek, injuring them.

After receiving informatio­n, additional superinten­dent of police Vijaypal Singh reached the spot. He said that a case was registered in this connection following a complaint by Narayan.

Further investigat­ion is on. Police force has been deployed in

the town as a preventive measure, though the situation is completely normal.

The district inspector of schools has given a clean chit to the school by carrying out a probe after the allegation that action is taken on chanting Bharat Marat ki Jai. He has sent a report to the district magistrate.
