DUBAI: Australia, replying to Pakistan’s first innings total of 482, finished the second day of the first Test on 30-0 in Dubai on Monday.

Openers Usman Khawaja (17) and Aaron Finch (13) safely negotiated the final 13 overs as Australia still trail Pakistan by 452 runs with all 10 wickets intact.

Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 482 in their first innings on the second day of the first Test against Australia in Dubai on Monday.

Haris Sohail scored 110 for his maiden hundred while Asad Shafiq scored 80 after Pakistan resumed the day at 255-3 in Dubai, losing their last six wickets for 72 runs.

Fast bowler Peter Siddle finished with 3-58 while off-spinner Nathan Lyon took 2-114.

Shafiq was in sight of a 12th Test century but fell on 80 to legspinner Labuschagne, who had him caught behind with a ball that turned and caught the outside edge as the pitch showed a rare sign of spin.

Shafiq hit nine boundaries and a six during his 212-minute stay and added 150 for the fifth wicket with Haris Sohail.

Left-hander Sohail bettered his previous best of 76 that came on his debut against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi last year.

It was another grind for the Australian bowlers as they only managed to dismiss nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas in the first session, bowled by fast bowler Peter Siddle.

Both Lyon and Holland bowled in tandem but could not pose any serious problems for the batsmen on a dead wicket that had no spin.

The second and final Test will be played in Abu Dhabi from October 16.
