Sameer, Mohit fashion UP’s third win

LUCKNOW : All rounders Sameer Choudhary and Mohit Jangra helped former champions Uttar Pradesh continue their winning spree in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, registerin­g a thrilling 17-run win against table topper Madhya Pradesh in Surat on Wednesday.

With this win Uttar Pradesh lead the combined points table of Elite Group A and B with 12 points in three matches, pushing Madhya Pradesh (12 pts in 4 matches) to the second spot in the 18 teams pool.

Choudhary hammered 42-ball 41 with the help of one four and a six, and along with Kritagya K Singh added valuable 61-run for the fifth wicket to take the side out of trouble to score 177/9 in 40 overs as they were once struggling at 4/44. He later took 2/31, whereas Shivam Sharma and Mohit Jangra shared four wickets between them to restrict MP for 160/9 in 40 overs in reply.

Kritagya made 36 in 38 balls with the help of three fours, whereas Mohit Jangra’s unbeaten 22 in 25 balls with the help of two fours and Pratham Mishra’s 14-ball 20, which contained two boundaries and a six helped UP post a challengin­g total after being sent to bat first.

Tripuresh Singh and Rishabh Choudhan did the trick for Madhya Pradesh, bagging three wickets each.

The going never looked easy for Madhya Pradesh when they begun the chase at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. They lost opener Chanchal Rathore (4) in the fifth over and thereafter kept losing wickets on regular intervals. Sagar Solanki (39, 39b, 1x4, 2x6) and Lucky Mishra (25, 34b, 2x4) though tried to adorn MP’s innings, stitching together 57-run for the seventh wicket, but in vain as side could make 160/9 in 40 overs. Rahul Chandrol (25, 33b, x34, 1x6) and Irfan Ali (25, 30b, 5x4) were the other main run getters.

Mohit Jangra and Pratham Mishra too did well for UP in bowling, bagging two and one wicket respective­ly. Now, Uttar Pradesh play their next match against Gujarat on Friday.
