VBSSC miss out semi-final berth

LUCKNOW: Gorakhpur’s Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College missed out a berth in the semi-finals of the 25th Charanjit Rai Nehru Hockey Tournament for girls, losing to Tika Ram Senior Secondary School, Sonepat 2-8 in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The Haryana outfits maintained pressure over the Gorakhpur side from the very start and were leading by 7-0 at the break. Arti Kashyap remained the star performer for the winners, netting five goals, including a hat-trick.

Komal Rohila, Dimple and Manju Chourasiya scored a goal each for Sonepat team, whereas Purnima Yadav and Kamini Tyagi scored consolatio­n goals for the Gorakhpur team, at the Shivaji Stadium.

Shia PG College scored a convincing 64-run win against BSNV PG College to make it to the semifinals of the 47th Sundari Devi Inter PG Collegiate Cricket Tournament, at the JNPG College Ground here on Wednesday. In other quarterfin­al match of the day National PG College beat LPC Gomti Nagar by 9 wickets. BRIEF SCORES

LPC Gomti Nagar 113 for 8 in 20.0 overs (Vikas Singh 40, Sanskar Singh 3/17, Anurag Chand 2/18, Shikhar Tandon 2/31) lost to National PG College 115 for 1 in 14.5 overs (Sachin Singh 59*, Kanha 25*).

The KD Singh ‘Babu’ Hockey Society on Wednesday condoled the tragic death of national level player Rohit Sonkar, who died in a road accident on Tuesday. Trainees as well as coaches observed a two-minute silence on the occasion.
