SBSP warns BJP, plans rally on quota issue
LUCKNOW: After threatening to review alliance with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) recently, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) president and cabinet minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has decided to organise a rally on the Ramabai Ambedkar ground here on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, SBSP national spokesperson Rana Ajit Pratap Singh said their main demand was categorization of backward and Scheduled Caste communities so that those castes that had been denied benefits of reservation could get reservation in government jobs.
“When the SBSP inked alliance with the BJP in 2017, categorization of the backward and the SC communities was one of its main demands. Then the top BJP leadership too accepted our demand. Later, chief minister
SINGH, HOWEVER, SAID THE SBSP WOULD CONTEST THE
2019 LOK SABHA ELECTIONS IN ALLIANCE WITH THE BJP.
Yogi Adityanath speaking on the floor of the assembly assured the people on the same and the government constituted a committee for the purpose,” he said adding, nothing happened after that.
“No meeting of the committee has been held for the last four months despite assurance that the demand will be fulfilled before the Lok Sabha election. Rajbhar then raised the issue before BJP president Amit Shah and was again assured that the demand will be fulfilled. But we see no activity on this front,” Singh said adding, “The SBSP has now decided to take the matter to the people by organising the rally on October 27. We will call upon the BJP leadership to fulfill the promise or be ready to face the wrath of the people.”
When asked if the SBSP will break ties with the BJP, Singh said as of now the party would work as a pressure group to get the demand implemented. “People are feeling cheated and anger is brewing among them,” he said. Singh said the SBSP would contest Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the BJP.
