UP feels the chill due to snowfall in hills
LUCKNOW: There was a dip in the day and night temperatures across Uttar Pradesh due to snowfall in the hills during the last 2-3 days, said an official at the Meteorological Centre, Lucknow.
The minimum temperature in many cities was around 10 degrees Celsius while the maximum came down to below 30 degrees, forcing people to take out light woolens.
The minimum temperature in Lucknow dipped to 10.2 degrees Celsius (four degrees below normal) on Thursday while it went up to 11.2 degrees Celsius (three degrees below normal) on Friday.
The maximum was recorded at 28.2 degrees on Thursday and on Friday it dropped a little to 27.7 degrees (three degrees below normal). The maximum relative humidity was 84%.
The local forecast for Lucknow and neighbouring areas was clear sky, mist in the morning. Maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 29 and 11 degrees Celsius respectively.
“The drop in day and night temperatures was due to snowfall
in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Northwesterly winds also contributed to it. There will be no significant change in night temperature for a while,” said JP Gupta, director, Meteorological Centre.
Muzaffarnagar recorded the lowest night temperature at 9 degrees Celsius.
