Former employee of Tata Steel shoots manager dead
FARIDABAD: A former employee of Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited, who, according to the police, was sacked from the company in August this year, shot dead a senior manager of the company on Friday afternoon, police said.
Stating that the accused has been identified as Vishwas Pandey (32), who hails from Allahabad, police said search is on for his arrest.
Police said the incident took place around 1.30pm on Friday, when Pandey entered the Tata steel yard on Hardware–Bata road and pumped around fourfive bullets into Arindam Pal (40) — a senior manager at the company.
Police said other employees rushed the victim to hospital, where doctors declared dead on arrival. “We received a message from the hospital. By the time we reached there, Pal was dead,” Ashok Kumar, station house officer, Mujesar police station, said.
Kumar maintained, “We have registered FIR pertaining to the case and launched a hunt for the accused who fled after committing the crime,” Kumar said. His body is in the Badshah Khan Hospital mortuary and a postmortem will be conducted on Sunday, police said.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd (TSPDL), in its official statement, said, “At around 1:10pm on November 9, 2018, an unfortunate incident took place at the Faridabad office of Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd, a Tata Steel subsidiary located inside the Tata Steel stockyard in Faridabad, wherein Arindam Pal, Sr Manager (Supply Chain), was shot dead with a firearm by Vishwash Pandey, an ex-employee of the company.”
The statement further maintained, “Pal expired on the way to the hospital. He is survived by his wife, parents and a daughter. Pandey worked with TSPDL from 2015 till 2018. He was discharged from services in August 2018.
After shooting Pal, he immediately ran out of the office and is still at large. The company extends its condolences to the family of Pal and is extending all possible support and help to the family at this time of crisis.”
