For­mer em­ployee of Tata Steel shoots man­ager dead

FARID­ABAD: A for­mer em­ployee of Tata Steel Pro­cess­ing and Dis­tri­bu­tion Lim­ited, who, ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, was sacked from the com­pany in Au­gust this year, shot dead a se­nior man­ager of the com­pany on Fri­day af­ter­noon, po­lice said.

Stat­ing that the ac­cused has been iden­ti­fied as Vish­was Pandey (32), who hails from Al­la­habad, po­lice said search is on for his ar­rest.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent took place around 1.30pm on Fri­day, when Pandey en­tered the Tata steel yard on Hard­ware–Bata road and pumped around four­five bul­lets into Arindam Pal (40) — a se­nior man­ager at the com­pany.

Po­lice said other em­ploy­ees rushed the vic­tim to hos­pi­tal, where doc­tors de­clared dead on ar­rival. “We re­ceived a mes­sage from the hos­pi­tal. By the time we reached there, Pal was dead,” Ashok Ku­mar, sta­tion house of­fi­cer, Mu­je­sar po­lice sta­tion, said.

Ku­mar main­tained, “We have reg­is­tered FIR per­tain­ing to the case and launched a hunt for the ac­cused who fled af­ter com­mit­ting the crime,” Ku­mar said. His body is in the Bad­shah Khan Hos­pi­tal mor­tu­ary and a post­mortem will be con­ducted on Sun­day, po­lice said.

Mean­while, Tata Steel Pro­cess­ing and Dis­tri­bu­tion Ltd (TSPDL), in its of­fi­cial state­ment, said, “At around 1:10pm on No­vem­ber 9, 2018, an un­for­tu­nate in­ci­dent took place at the Farid­abad of­fice of Tata Steel Pro­cess­ing and Dis­tri­bu­tion Ltd, a Tata Steel sub­sidiary lo­cated in­side the Tata Steel stock­yard in Farid­abad, wherein Arindam Pal, Sr Man­ager (Sup­ply Chain), was shot dead with a firearm by Vish­wash Pandey, an ex-em­ployee of the com­pany.”

The state­ment fur­ther main­tained, “Pal ex­pired on the way to the hos­pi­tal. He is sur­vived by his wife, par­ents and a daugh­ter. Pandey worked with TSPDL from 2015 till 2018. He was dis­charged from ser­vices in Au­gust 2018.

Af­ter shoot­ing Pal, he im­me­di­ately ran out of the of­fice and is still at large. The com­pany ex­tends its con­do­lences to the fam­ily of Pal and is ex­tend­ing all pos­si­ble sup­port and help to the fam­ily at this time of cri­sis.”
