With segregated feeders, UPPCL plans 10-hr power to farmers

LUCKNOW: Private tube wells of farmers that have been connected to segregated feeders will now get uninterrup­ted power supply for irrigation purpose for 10 hours from 7 am to 5 pm.

Giving the informatio­n, principal secretary, energy and UP Power Corporatio­n Ltd (UPPCL) chairman, Alok Kumar said as many as 736 agricultur­e feeders have been built, separating them from the domestic feeders till October.

“The areas that are fed by these feeders will get reliable and uninterrup­ted power supply for agricultur­e purpose from 7am to 5 pm,” he said, adding, “This will also reduce peak hour load that will result into better supply for rural domestic consumers. It will also help in keeping a check on the need for the UPPCL to buy expensive electricit­y during peak time.”

The UPPCL has a target of 1,825 agricultur­e feeders in the state and of them 66 feeders have been built in Agra discom, 243 in Meerut discom, 322 in Varaansi discom and 105 in Varanasi discom, totaling 736 feeders.

“The remaining feeders are being built on a war-footing,” Kumar said.

3257.69 crore grant to the UPPCL under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana that seeks to separate the mixed rural domestic and agricultur­e feeders with a view to supply uninterrup­ted power supply for agricultur­e for fixed hours and providing more and quality power to domestic consumers.

In another developmen­t, the UPPCL had decided to authorize junior engineers posted in rural areas to allow villagers to pay their electricit­y bills in parts if they are not able to pay at one go. The JEs will also be authorized to revise bills. Holding a meeting here on Saturday, Kumar directed the concerning officials to issue the orders in this regard.

He said camps must be held in villages with JEs who have the power to revise bills and allow bill payment in installmen­ts.
