LUCKNOW: Despite multiple criminal cases against the Unnao rape victim’s uncle between 1993 and 2017, he kept roaming free and grew his business in Delhi even after being declared as an absconder in 2004 by a local court for firing during panchayat election of 2000.

The big question: Were the police not aware about his criminal history for so many years? The cops did not arrest him for 14 long years and allowed him easy access to his house in Makhi village.

Moreover, the accused was provided police security cover after he apprehended life threat from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in April this year.

A man close to the victim’s uncle said he (the accused) would have been named in multiple criminal cases before 2002, but after that he never got involved into any type of controversy and remained engaged in setting up his business in Delhi.

cages and increased his turnover manifold during these years before his family got involved into a controversy with Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was also his neighbour in Makhi village, in 2017, he added.

He said the first criminal case (of attacking a man with cane) was lodged against him in 1993 when he was very young and thereafter multiple cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and loot were lodged against him till 2002.

Three cases were lodged against him in 2017 when he stood up against the member of legislative assembly (MLA) and his family, he added.
