LU PhD admission forms available online by Nov 29
LUCKNOW: The online application form for admission into PhD courses at the University of Lucknow (LU) would be available from late night of November 28 or early morning November 29, informed varsity officials.
The form would cost Rs 2,000 for general and Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates, and Rs 1,000 for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe (SC/ST) candidates, they said.
The last date for submission of the application form was December 20, but candidates could deposit it with a late fee of Rs 1,000 till December 26, said LU registrar SK Shukla.
He said the entrance test would consist of two papers of 45 marks each.
“One paper, consisting of 45 questions, will be of the subject chosen by the candidate. The other paper will test the research aptitude of the candidate. This paper will be common to all candidates and will have five sections: general awareness; statistical data interpretation; mental aptitude, numerical aptitude and logical reasoning; information and communication technology; and people and environment,” he said.
“LU is the first among all state universities in implementing the policy direction for making PhD admissions in accordance with the UGC PhD regulations, 2016. Governor and chancellor Ram Naik has okayed the LU PhD ordinance after the varsity’s academic and executive councils passed it on October 22,” Shukla said.
It is after a gap of over a year that LU has started admissions in its PhD programmes.
This was due to delay by the varsity in adopting the new PhD ordinance that was brought out by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
“A letter is being sent to colleges seeking information on eligibility of their teachers for becoming research supervisors as per the Ordinance 2018 of the University of Lucknow,” said Shukla.
“Colleges are also being asked to submit claims for numbers of seats of research scholars for eligible supervisors. Colleges will have to claim supervisory status for teachers and the number of research scholars with proper documentation,” he said.
