LUCKNOW: A month after a 22-yearold woman went missing from her house in Rampur, the police on Tuesday recovered her body and arrested three people in connection with her murder.

Police said the accused killed the woman with a farm spade and buried her body.

Superintendent of police (SP), Rampur, Shiv Hari Meena said: “We have arrested Tahir Khan, 32, Danish Khan, 28, and Nisar Alam, 31, for the woman’s murder. We have also recovered the remains of the body and sent it for forensic investigation.” According to police, the woman was murdered on November 1, a few hours after she left her home in Ganj area of Rampur.

The incident came to light on November 8 when the woman’s relatives lodged a report at Ganj police station. “We rounded up at least a dozen people on suspicion and zeroed in on Tahir who reportedly was in a relationship with the woman in the past,” the SP claimed.

He said Tahir initially claimed that he was no longer in touch with the woman but later succumbed to police pressure and confessed to his crime. “Tahir revealed that he was in a relationship with the woman before his family fixed his engagement with another girl. He said he killed her as she was opposed to the engagement and threatened to tell Tahir’s family about their relationship,” Meena said.

The SP added Tahir hatched the plan with his friends Danish and Nisar and called the woman to meet at a farm. “When she reached there to meet Tahir, he attacked her with a farm spade injuring her in the neck and abdomen. After she succumbed to injuries, Tahir buried her,” he said. The police recovered the woman’s body and the spade used in the crime. Based on the evidences and complaint by the woman’s family, police lodged an FIR against the trio.
