LUCKNOW/AGRA: Slain inspector Subodh Kumar Singh’s wife Rajni, who along with her two sons, met Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Thursday, told the chief minister that her husband who was handling cow slaughter complaints used to get threat calls.

She also told the CM that three persons had been arrested for cow slaughter, days before Monday violence in Bulandshahr, in which two persons, including her husband, lost their lives.

Rajni had threatened to commit suicide at Bulandshahr police lines if those guilty of killing her husband were not punished.

In a video circulated to media soon after the meeting of slain inspector’s family with the chief minister, Rajni is heard referring to the arrest of three persons for cow slaughter at Sayana police station (before the Monday’s violence).

“There is one more thing, sir. My husband used to call me to the police station (Sayana) and I used to go there. Last time when I was there, three persons had been arrested for cow slaughter. There was a call from Sayana MLA (Devendra Singh Lodhi) when my husband was in bathroom. He asked me to pick up the call and inform that he was inside,” Rajni is heard telling the CM.

However, there is no clarity on what she said further as the video has been disconnected.

A senior officer present at the meeting said she only informed the chief minister about the threats her husband used to receive and there was nothing beyond that.

“I have informed the chief minister about all this and he has assured us of a fair inquiry,” said Rajni while speaking to Hindustan Times on phone after meeting the chief minister.

“My husband was a straight forward man and never used to succumb to pressures. He used to receive threats. He used to record the calls. This record has all gone with the mobile missing after his killing,” said Rajni.

“Understandably, the mobile must have been taken away by the person who knew that his threats were being recorded in the mobile. My husband used to download threats in laptop from mobile but could not do so for past one month,” she said.

Rajni, however, appeared confident of fair investigation after her meeting with the chief minister.

“Subodh used to remain in conversation with his higher officials and might have told them about such threats,” she said, adding, he was not comfortable with his last posting in Bulandshahr district.

Consoling the grieving family, Adityanath said those responsible for the death of the inspector would not be spared under any circumstances.

Besides announcing a relief of Rs 50 lakh to the family of slain inspector, chief minister said the state government would also pay back the outstanding loan amount of about Rs 30 lakh, which the family owes to a bank.

The chief minister also assured extraordinary pension to the family and a job to a family member.

UP minister Atul Garg, who along with additional chief secretary Avnish Awasthi and DGP OP Singh were present at the meeting, later briefed the media. “The chief minister got emotional when he came to know about the academic performance of the slain inspector’s son,” said Garg.

He said the state government would name Jaithera-Kurawali road, which leads to slain inspector’s house in Etah as Subodh Kumar Singh Shahid Marg.

The state government would also consider the demand of naming a school/college after the slain inspector, said an official. Awasthi said elder son of the deceased would appear in All India Service exams while the younger son was preparing to get a law degree.

He said the state government would extend all necessary help to ensure that the inspector’s sons were able to attend coaching classes at NOIDA.

DGP said he would ask SSP Gautam Buddha Nagar to provide necessary help to them in getting admission in coaching there.

Singh’s elder son, Shreya Pratap Singh, said chief minister has assured justice to the family and action against the guilty. “CM has assured that he will always remain with us,” he said.

Rajni’s elder brother and brother-inlaw also accompanied the family for the meeting.
