‘Digitalisa­tion is only around 10% of the population’

LUCKNOW : Digitalisa­tion is only around 10% of the population of the country but it is required to go up to at least 70-80%, said Prof M Mirza, vice-chancellor, Urdu Arbi Farsi University, on Thursday.

Speaking on technology, he said server down syndrome and loss of person to person contact were major challenges.

Because of this, faith on technologi­cal success has gone down.

The other challenges were resistance to change, digital divide, cost, privacy and security, said Prof M Mirza at the 2nd annual conference of Associatio­n of Socio-Economic Developmen­t Studies (ASEDS) organised at Giri Institute of Developmen­t Studies.

In the panel discussion on challenges and scope of digitaliza­tion in India, Prof Yashvir Tyagi, former head, economics department, Lucknow Univer- sity chaired the session.

Prof ManojAgraw­al, department of economics and director of Centre for Excellence and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Health Institute, said digitalisa­tion makes life easy.

The theme of the conference was ‘Emerging Issues on Society, Economy and Governance with reference to Digital India’.

In the inaugural session, director of GIRI Institute Prof BK Bajpai welcomed the speakers and introduced the theme.

Prof Vinay Pathak, vicechance­llor, AKT University spoke on technologi­cal revolution starting from the first one to the 4th and current one 3D technology.

Automation, robots, cyber developmen­t, he said, had changed our life but for more expensive technologi­es inclusion is required.

As on date, it has not percolated to the rural India, he added.
