Candidates awaiting admissions to PhD in BBAU threaten stir
LUCKNOW: Five months after the PhD entrance test in the history department of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), successful candidates are still awaiting admission. Disgruntled with the university administration, they have now threatened of an agitation .
Some such candidates said they were suffering due to lack of communication and infighting among teachers.
“We are concerned about our career. While we are waiting for admission, in other departments PhD course work has already started and others are getting ready for examination,” said Arun Kumar Verma, a candidate.
Many candidates said due to delay in the admission process, some of them were becoming restless, with their academic career hanging in balance.
Many candidates have also given representation to vice chancellor NMP Verma and other university officials, seeking immediate redressal of the problem.
The students said this was not the first time they had given a reminder to university officials.
“In the past also we had requested the department to expedite PhD admission work but to no avail. We are on the brink of losing an academic year because of the laid back attitude of teachers,” a student said.
When contacted, dean of School for Ambedkar Studies of Social Sciences, Ripu Sundan Singh said, “We are aware of the problem. It has happened due to some lapses within the department. An assistant professor in the department was not included in the list of PhD supervisors.”
