Prohibited cattle meat recovered in Pilibhit
LUCKNOW: Police on Friday recovered over 40 kg of meat of prohibited cattle from a village under Puranpur police station of Pilibhit district.
The meat was recovered from an abandoned house and investigators are trying to identify the persons involved in the alleged animal slaughter.
The recovery was made a day after local police arrested 10 people for alleged cow slaughter and recovered an estimated 500 kg meat of prohibited cattle in the same area.
“Shabbir Ahmed, Hanif, Bashir Ahmed, Rahis Ahmed, Mohammad Miyan, Rafiq and Akram, who are residents of Sherpur Kalan, along with Habib, Babbu and Md Islam of Sahaukara, were arrested in the raids conducted when locals reported cow slaughter in Sherpur,” said Puranpur station house officer KK Tiwari.
The situation at the police station turned tense after the arrest when members of right wing Hindu groups reached there and demanded strict action against the accused. The local police had to call in additional police force to ensure law and order was maintained. The crowd later dispersed after assurances from officials that required action would be taken against the accused.
