Launching the third edition of the farmers’ millennium schools here, he said farmers must be encouraged to register themselves with the agriculture department so that subsidy in seeds, fertilisers etc could be transferred to their bank accounts directly.
He said holding classes for 10 million farmers under the ‘millennium school’ programme had been useful in educating farmers about the latest farm technologies to double their income. Farmers will be given live demos on progressive farming this time, he said.
He said the crop residues would now become an asset and not a liability to farmers with the government planning to produce bio-fuel from it. “In the first phase, the plants to concert cop residues into bio fuel are being set up one each in Sitapur and Gorakhpur,” he said.
