Girl dies, kin allege apathy by KGMU docs

-

LUCKNOW : Family members of a 16-year-old patient accused KGMU doctors of being negligent after her death here on Monday morning.

Family members of Shalu, 16, had got her admitted to the trauma centre late on Sunday night. She was diagnosed with fever and acute encephalitis. After her death, her family members alleged that despite pleading, the doctors did not heed the patient.

However, KGMU authorities said the treatment was given to the patient as per the requirement but after death, the attendants misbehaved with the staff.

“The resident doctors incubated the patient and gave adequate treatment but unfortunately the patient died,” said KGMU spokesperson in a press statement. “After the death, a large number of family members collected at the trauma centre and misbehaved with the medical staff,” said the spokesperson.

Family members staged a protest and registered complaint with the university authorities.

This is second such incident in the past ten days where complaint has been registered against the junior doctors of the medical varsity.

LIFT STOPS MIDWAY

One of the lifts, used for patients at the medical varsity, got stuck midway on Monday afternoon. A patient on stretcher and his attendants got stuck inside and had to call for help to get the lift’s door opened.

The staff opened the door but the lift could not be brought to the floor level. The level of the lift was about two-feet higher than the floor. As a result, the attendants had to make an uncomfortable attempt to take out the patient.
