Upper caste quota a ‘game changer’: UP BJP

The BJP appeared elated with the Modi government’s announceme­nt of a 10 percent quota for upper castes.

UP BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, UP minister Shrikant Sharma, party spokesman Manish Shukla were among several leaders who described the move as a ‘game changer.’

“For the past 70 to 72 years the upper castes had been denied their due as they had no reservatio­n. Now Modiji has ensured that without tinkering with the reservatio­n of OBCs and SC/STs, the upper castes too get their due. The poor among upper castes are now happy as well,” Pandey said.

“Those who were feeling left out in the developmen­t race due to economic reasons now will get adequate opportunit­ies. The country had been used to divide and rule tactics. The Modi government has now introduced the concept of developmen­t and welfare
