Pooja Raghav does SAI Lucknow proud, winning two gold medals

LUCKNOW : Young Pooja Raghav made the Sports Authority of India’s regional centre proud as she won back-to-back gold medals at two national taekwondo championsh­ips.

First she won a gold medal in 42 kg category in under-17 at the junior national championsh­ip and then claimed another gold medal at the recently concluded 64th SGFI National Championsh­ip at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. Another trainee of the centre, Anjali too bagged a bronze medal in under-19 category.

ATHLETICS TEAM

UP Athletics Associatio­n on Monday announced its team for the 53rd National Cross-Country Championsh­ips, scheduled to be held on January 20 at Mathura.

The Indian cross country team for internatio­nal championsh­ips will be selected on the basis of an athlete’s performanc­e during this championsh­ips. The team included, Amarjeet Singh, Sanjay Patel, Sunil Kumar Yadav, Deep Narayan, Virendra Kumar Verma, Raja Kishore Rawat, Shyam, Mukesh Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Rakesh Yadav, Dinesh Kumar, Manish Kumar Yadav, Chandan Bharadwaj, Poonam Singh, Shrimati, Suman Singh, Rima Patel, Jyoti Singh, Hemlata Sharma, Kajal Paswan, Vandana, Pooja Verma, Shikha Gupta, Ranjana Patel, Sheelu Yadav, Amrita Patel, Prem Lata, Antima Pal, Pushpa Yadav.

Vineet Singh slammed 107-ball 121, which contained 17 fours and two sixes as Aryavart Academy trounced Central Academy by 122 runs in a league match of the 2nd Phoolamti Om Prakash Saxena Memorial Tournament here on Monday. Nishant Singh also made 60-ball 68 with the help of eight fours and a six as the winners piled up 294/4 in 40 overs. Later Ajay Pal had 5/43 to skittle out Central Academy for 172 in 29.3 overs. In other matches of the day, Life Care Club beat IPRK Cricket Academy by four wickets, and Panther Cricket Academy beat Divine Cricket Academy by two wickets.

An unbeaten century by Varun P Singh (141, 115b, 18x4) helped Dhruv Sports Promotion Group beat Kalyanpur Strikers by 187 runs in a D division league match, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium here on Monday. In another D division match, Annapurna Cricket Club defeated UP Rangers Cricket Club by 68 runs, whereas in B division, DYA Club notched up 10-wicket win against Awadh Sky Sports Club.
