REPORT ON 2013 KUMBH STAMPEDE TO BE TABLED IN BOTH UP HOUSES

LUCKNOW: The state cabinet on Tuesday decided to place before the two houses of the state legislatur­e, the report of a one-member inquiry commission set up to probe an accident that took place at Prayagraj railway station during the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh on February 10, 2013. At least 37 people were killed in a stampede at the Allahabad railway station at the time.

LUCKNOW :The state cabinet on Tuesday decided to place before two houses of the state legislatur­e, the report of a one-member inquiry commission set up to probe an accident that took place at Prayagraj railway station during the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh on February 10, 2013. At least 37 people were killed in a stampede at the Allahabad junction railway station at the time. Prayagraj was known as Allahabad then.

Minister for medical and health Siddharth Nath Singh said the state cabinet had accepted recommenda­tions of the inquiry committee to check recurrence of such incidents. “All the recommenda­tions made by the committee have been taken into account while making preparatio­ns for Prayagraj Kumbh 2019,” said Singh.

Singh said the inquiry committee had made observatio­ns about the last-minute change of platform that led to the crowd shifting from one platform and resulted in the accident. Singh said the state cabinet decided to place action taken report too before the two houses of the state legislatur­e.
