PhD admissions at RMLNLU under scanner
LUCKNOW: The PhD admissions done at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University have come under scanner after two MLCs raised objection over its procedure while alleging that it was in violation of the UGC norms.
The UP higher education department has instituted an inquiry into the matter. Principal Secretary Law was asked to look into the matter and get it probed by special secretary officer.
University officials said they received communication from the higher education department.
“We will clear all doubts and objections raised by SP MLC Shatrudh Prakash and Congress MLC Deepak Singh. RMLNLU will submit reply by January 10,” an official said.
As per the UGC regulations 2016, it is mandatory that candidates having 50% marks are eligible for admission.
But both MLCs alleged that the law university called all applicants without declaring the result.
RMLNLU vice chancellor SK Bhatnagar said, “Yes, we have received the letter raising objections in PhD admissions. The coordinator of PhD admission, Sanjay Singh was asked to look into it. There is no foul play in PhD admissions and all were done according to UGC rules.”
Sanjay Singh, coordinator of PhD admissions said, “This year 12 PhD admissions were done in Law and only 4 applicants took admission in PhD for humanities. In all 16 admissions were done and we followed all UGC rules. It seems that some candidate who did not qualify may have given representation to MLC and as a result objection was raised.”
He said PhD entrance result was not publicised but admissions will be done as per the UGC regulations.
The university will not flout any rules and regulations of the University Grants Commission, he said.
