Second encounter within 34 hours, two criminals shot in leg

BAREILLY: The police carried out another encounter, second within 34 hours, and arrested five criminals near Shahid petrol pump on Badaun Road here late on Tuesday evening. Two of them were injured after being shot in the leg.

Police had launched an intensive checking drive of vehicles in the city following the Monday encounter during which two history-sheeters of Sambhal were killed. On Tuesday, they got a tip off at around 12 am that five persons in an Innova car were moving suspicious­ly near the petrol pump in Subhash Nagra.

Police teams of Cantt, Kotwali, Qila and other police stations of the city soon reached there.

“When the five criminals in an Innova car were stopped near the petrol pump, they suddenly started firing at policemen.

Police also retaliated and injured two of them and nabbed the other three criminals who were trying to flee from the spot,” said Ramesh Bhartiya, SP (crime). Police recovered five revolvers and 30 live cartridges from their possession, he added.

The arrested men were identified as Shahim, Sharif, Dharmendra, Munne Khan and Wali Shah alias Lambu, all residents of Devraniya village under Shahpur police station. In the encounter, Munne Khan and Wali sustained bullet injuries in their leg, police said.

During interrogat­ion, the criminals told the police that they were planning to loot an Agra based trader.

“They were to execute their plan and leave for Agra on Wednesday morning,” he said.
