Miscreants kill elderly woman, flee with cash, valuables

PRAYAGRAJ: :Unidentifi­ed miscreants murdered an elderly woman and made off with cash and other valuables in Sudnipur village under Sarai Inayat police station of trans-Ganga area late on Tuesday night. The miscreants also injured the woman’s son and daughter-in-law when they tried to resist the attack.

According to reports, retired COD Cheoki employee Thakur Prasad Mishra and his wife lived with his family at their new house constructe­d near his fields. One of his four sons lives with him while others live in Mumbai. Late on Tuesday night, some miscreants barged inside Mishra’s house and attacked his wife Durgawati when she woke up on hearing the commotion. Mishra’s son and daughter-in-law were also attacked and injured when they came to her help. Durgawati received serious head injuries and died on the spot. Thakur Prasad and some other relatives were locked in other rooms of the house by the looters who took away four trunks from the house, which contained cash and jewellery. SSP Nitin Tiwari also visited the scene and called a dog squad and field unit for investigat­ion.

SSP Nitin Tiwari, SP transGanga and other senior officials reached the spot and carried out investigat­ions. Durgawati’s body was sent for autopsy while the injured were sent to Beli Hospital for treatment. SSP Nitin Tiwari said an FIR has been lodged against unidentifi­ed looters and a hunt has been launched to nab them, he added.

ARMED MEN LOOT BANK AT GUN POINT

Armed looters barged inside a customer service point of Baroda Purvi UP Gramin Bank in Charwa area of Kaushambi and looted cash worth Rs 3.76 lakh at gun point. The franchise owner was thrashed when he tried to resist the looters.

According to reports, Ram Milan Tripathi used to run the CSP in his village. Following the strike in banks, Tripathi had kept cash Rs 3.76 lakh expecting a large number of customers.
