10% quota for poor a historic step, says Yogi

AGRA: Chief minister Yogi Aditynath on Wednesday described as historic the move to provide 10% reservatio­n to the economical­ly weaker section in general category.

He appreciate­d the efforts of the PM and his party for ensuring successful passage of the Constituti­on amendment Bill on the issue in the Lok Sabha.

He also praised the PM for the inaugurati­on of the Gang Jal and other projects in Agra. The chief minister was speaking at a public meeting at Kothi Meena Bazar ground here after the projects were inaugurate­d. The PM also spoke at the rally later.

Adityanath said medical facilities would be improved at the Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra, after completion of a Rs 200-crore project to establish a super specialty centre.

“About 314,906 toilets have been built in rural areas. In urban areas, about 15,000 toilets were built under the ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission. As many as 14,629 houses in the urban areas and 3,707 houses in the rural areas were given to needy people under the PM Awas Yojna.”

Also, 57,666 households were provided electricit­y under the Saubhagya Yojna, he said.

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma praised the PM over the Ganga Jal project and the passage of the Constituti­on amendment Bill to provide 10% reservatio­n

of the economical­ly weaker section in the general category.

He attacked the parties, which were coming together to ‘stop’ PM Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha election so that “their corruption goes unchecked”.

Ministers Suresh Khanna and SP Singh Baghel, National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman prof Ram Shankar Katheria chairman and some MLAs were also present.
