LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday tweeted that his party’s alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had unnerved the BJP so much that its demoralised leaders and workers were desperate to join the SP and BSP.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati had on Saturday announced their electoral alliance in UP sharing 38 Lok Sabha seats each among themselves, leaving two each for the Congress (Rae Bareli and Amethi) and other prospective partners. The two leaders had been working on the alliance since March last year.

“The top leadership of BJP and its entire organisation have lost hope after the SP-BSP alliance. Now, BJP’s booth level workers are saying ‘Mera booth chaknachoor (My booth is shattered)’. BJP’s demoralised and desperate leaders and workers are restive and desperate to join the SP and BSP,” Akhilesh tweeted.

This is Akhilesh’s first statement after BJP’s reaction on the alliance. The BJP had said that the SP-BSP came together for their survival and not for the country or Uttar Pradesh. They said the alliance would make no impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

MAYAWATI ON SATURDAY ANNOUNCED THEIR ELECTORAL ALLIANCE IN UP SHARING 38 LS SEATS EACH , LEAVING TWO EACH FOR CONG AND OTHER PROSPECTIVE PARTNERS.

During Saturday’s joint press conference, Akhilesh made it clear that it was he who initiated the idea of alliance which was accepted by BSP president.

“In my subconscious, the idea of the SP-BSP alliance germinated on the very day when BJP leaders began insulting Mayawati ji (referring to the time when Mayawati resigned from Rajya Sabha, hitting out at BJP). The BJP, instead of punishing those leaders, made them ministers with big portfolios and egged them on,” he said. “In my mind, I had put the final seal on the alliance when the BJP defeated the joint candidate for Rajya Sabha Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar through deceit and then celebrated it. It was very necessary for the SP and the BSP to shatter the BJP’s arrogance. I thank Mayawati ji for her historic decision taken in national interest. I assure all that the oppressive rule of the BJP will end now,” Akhilesh said.
