LUCKNOW : As Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati formally announced the electoral alliance on Saturday, the colour of politics also changed outside the headquarters of both the parties in Lucknow.

Hoardings and campaign material featuring both the leaders with a slogan attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are now available at shops outside party offices here.

Workers of both the parties are placing orders for stickers and flags announcing the alliance.

Sanjay Srivastava, a shopkeeper who has been selling campaign material in front of SP headquarters on Vikramaditya Marg for the last six years, said: “Now, I have come to believe in the saying that everything is possible in politics. See, I am selling campaign material of BSP in front of SP office.”

Nearly a dozen shops which had been selling campaign material like photographs, flags, stickers and caps of Samajwadi Party till now have also ordered BSP’s campaign material.

Another trader Ashish Gupta said: “We have ordered campaign material featuring Akhilesh and Mayawati. Earlier, workers of both the parties were not sure about the alliance. We are now flooded with orders for SP-BSP vehicle stickers, flags and posters.” “The campaign has almost begun. We were waiting for a final word on alliance. Now, my vehicle will have blue colour besides red,” an SP worker from Barabanki Animesh Yadav said.

Hoardings on the roads outside the headquarters of both the parties have come up wishing people on Makar Sakranti, Lohri and New Year. Quite a few were quick to put up hoardings featuring both the leaders with the slogan: ‘Hamara kaam bolta hai, BJP ka jhooth bolta hai’.

Some vehicles with stickers featuring both the leaders with the slogan ‘SP-BSP aayi hai, nayi kranti laayi hai’ are also attracting workers.
