Paswan’s daughter protests against him for calling Rabri ‘angootha chhap’
PATNA: Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s daughter on Sunday protested against him for allegedly calling former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi ‘angootha chhap’ (illiterate).
Two days ago, Paaswan criticised Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad for opposing 10% quota for the poor in the general category, and said that RJD leaders indulged only in slogan shouting and making an ‘angootha chhap’ as CM.
His eldest daughter Asha Paswan staged a dharna in front of the party office to protest his ‘outrageous’ remarks against Rabri Devi. Asha is among the two daughters of Paswan’s first wife, Rajkumari Devi. Asha is the wife of Anil Kumar Sadhu, state chief of RJD’s Dalit Prakosth. Before joining the RJD, he headed the Dalit Sena, a wing of LJP, as its state president.
Leading a demonstration with her supporters in front of the LJP office on Peer Ali Path near Patna airport, Asha said she would continue her agitation until the LJP chief apologises for his remarks.
“Paswan’s remarks were not outrageous to Rabri Devi only, but they were intended to insult all women. Such comments reflect his mindset towards half of the society,” said Asha, as she continued shouting slogans along with her supporters.
In 1997, Rabri Devi replaced her husband Lalu Prasad as chief minister for the first time after he was jailed in a fodder scam. She did not have any formal education. Accusing her father of nurturing anti-women mentality, Asha alleged that Paswan had ditched her mother as she was also illiterate. A couple of years after divorcing Rajkumari, Paswan married Rina from Amritsar in 1983. Rina is the mother of Jamui MP and Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan. Asha alleged that Paswan always promoted his sons and never took care of daughters. Asha has already declared her intention to fight from Hajipur, the constituency from where Ram Vilas Paswan was elected to the Lok Sabha, on an RJD ticket. Her husband, Sadhu, is also aspiring to contest the Lok Sabha election.
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Akhilesh Prasad Singh condemned Paswan’s comments and said such statements suit the personality of Paswan.
Paswan, however, refuted making any comments against Rabri Devi during his conversation in Parliament, saying that he was not a leader of foul mouth.
