Paush Purnima snan today

PRAYAGRAJ: Devotees from across the country started arriving at Prayagraj on Sunday on the eve of Paush Purnima snan, the second official bathing of Kumbh2019. All schools and colleges in Prayagraj will remain closed on the occasion of Paush Purnima.

Mela officials said all preparatio­ns had been made for the pilgrims who would take the holy dip at 35 ghats within a range of 5.5 kilometres.

“Arrangemen­t of toilets has been made in mela area. Security and cleanlines­s are on our priority list and garbage is being rem oved on a regular basis,” mela officer Vijay Kiran Anand said. He said notice had been issued and strict action was taken against vendors at places where complaints regarding toilets were received by the mela administra­tion. “Clean and adequate water is available in Sangam for the pilgrims ,” he added.

Over 5,000 water taps have been installed to provide drinking water to pilgrims and adequate arrangemen­ts of milk and ration has also been made.

Signboards, flex boards and hoardings have been put up to guide the pilgrims.

Kumbh Mela police have made adequate security arrangemen­ts in view of Paush Purnima snan.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP), Kumbh, KP Singh said security personnel were keeping a strict watch on the movement of vehicles and making efforts to check suspicious activities. “Fire-fighters, water police personnel and other security forces have been deployed in and outside the mela area. Heavy traffic arrangemen­ts are in place and diversions have been made for smooth movement of traffic as well as pilgrims,” he said.

Besides, 10 shuttle buses each at Arail and Parade Ground and e-rickshaws had been roped in for transporta­tion, Singh added.

IG (range) Mohit Agarwal also visited the mela area and inspected security arrangemen­ts on Sunday. Meanwhile, traffic police have banned the entry of heavy vehicles in the city from 5 am on Sunday till 11 pm on Tuesday. SP (traffic) Kuldeep Singh said only light vehicles with registrati­on number of UP 70 would be allowed within city limits.
