Try to plan for kids before the age of 35: Experts
LUCKNOW: Couples should plan kids before it’s too late, said Dr Gita Khanna addressing a conference ‘poor ovarian response’ organised by the Ajanta Hope Society of Human Reproduction and Research.
Organising chairperson of the event, Dr Khanna said that failing ovary and poor ovarian response was a big challenge globally for the specialists treating infertile couples.
“Young couples should try to contact infertility specialist if they don’t conceive within 12 months of trying for baby and within 6 months if age is more than 35 years along with lifestyle and obesity management,” she said.
Poor ovarian responses were often found in people who had underwent ovarian operations for cysts and endometriosis or had diabetes, thalassemia, chromosomal defects, certain infections or lifestyle issues like habit of smoking, obesity and also late marriages, said Dr Khanna, an infertility IVF specialist at Ajanta Hospital.
During the session, it was discussed that ovaries are the organ which produce eggs (oocytes) which are needed for fertilisation. Eggs are produced by the ovarian follicles and their number is fixed at the time of birth and at a given age and this is called Ovarian Reserve. It starts reducing significantly after the age of 35, both in quality and quantity.
The event was attended by more than 250 gynaecologists. The academic session was addressed by stalwarts of IVF such as Dr Gauri Devi, Dr Pankaj Talwar, Dr Rupa Bassi and Dr Pratap Kumar.
Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia and director of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences Prof Deepak Malviya inaugurated the event. During the meet, the experts advised the young couples to marry and plan for kids at the right age.
