AGRA : Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Sunday said the mega rally of opposition parties called by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee in Kolkata did not have adequate representation of Muslims.

Talking to reporters during his visit to Firozabad, Khan said, “The rally by opposition parties in Kolkata did not have adequate representation of Muslims. There were only two Muslim leaders, one from Kashmir and the other from Assam. Muslims are worried that the rally failed to voice their concerns.”

He said so much was spoken about politics in the rally but no one raised important issues facing the nation.

“A decade ago, Sachar Committee had highlighted the plight

of Muslims saying that their condition was worse than Dalits. The condition of Muslims has deteriorated since then but we are not sure if the issues raised by Sachar committee would be considered in reservation recently provided by the Centre,” he said.

Khan welcomed the alliance

between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh and wished it continued for long and brought about change.

Avoiding a direct reply on the silence of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on alliance, Khan said he was too small a leader to answer such a big question.
