LUCKNOW:Probably it was the first time when all 11 players, including wicket keeper, bowled in a cricket match, but a win remained elusive for them.

Shubham Chabey-led former champions Uttar Pradesh did this against hosts Gujarat in their Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy quarterfinal match at Valsad on Sunday, but couldn’t change their fortunes. On Saturday, UP had lost to Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal.

Gujarat on the basis of the 51-run first innings made it to the semi-final. From the very start of the last day’s play on Sunday, at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Uttar Pradesh bowlers tried their best to get the Gujarat batsmen out as soon as possible in the second innings.

Even keeper Shivam Chaudhary bowled 14 overs, which conceded 33 runs, but to no avail as Gujarat ended the day at 322/9 in 100 as the two captains decided to make an early end of the last day’s play.

Resuming at the overnight score of 88/3, Gujarat batsmen enjoyed a good outing in the middle. Het struck 128-ball 80, which contained 10 hits to the fence. KB Pachal (49), YD Gardharia (75), Tejas R Patel (35) and MA Hingrahjia (28) too kept UP bowlers at bay.

Among all 11 UP bowlers, Trishal Vijay Trivedi finished with 4/81, whereas Harsvardhan bagged 2/35. Shiva Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Aryan Juyal shared three wickets between them.

ANOTHER LOSS!

Uttar Pradesh’s poor run in the Women’s Under-23 Twenty20 continued even on Sunday as they lost to Baroda by 29 runs, at the Pauls College Ground Kalamassery in Kochi. This was UP’s third loss in as many as four matches.

Needing 112 to win, Uttar Pradesh could make 89/7. Shivpriya Pandey remained the highest run getter, scoring 38-ball 40, which contained five hits to the fence. He was caught by R Patel off Kesha. Radha P Yadav took two wickets.

Earlier, Baroda while batting first after winning the toss, managed 112/6. Opener YH Bhatia (27), Radha P Yadav (39), and Hrutu Patel (18) made useful contributions. For UP, Rashi Kanojiya bagged 2/20, whereas Anjali Singh, Tanu Kala and Aditi took a wicket each.
