Yamuna water to be purified within 15 months: Gadkari
AGRA : Union minister for road transport, shipping, water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari promised to make Yamuna free of pollution within 15 months, claiming that its water would be fit for consumption directly.
The minister yet again promised a water route between Agra and Delhi and a flying bus facility to view the Taj Mahal from above.
Gadkari said there would be a 250-seater double-decker flying bus, which would provide the view of the Taj Mahal from above and re-assured a water link between Agra and Delhi (through Yamuna) that would be a one and a half hour journey in a boat to be brought from Russia.
Gadkari was in Agra and Mathura on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone for various schemes under the Namami Gange project. He addressed gatherings on Akshay Patra premises in Vrindavan and at Central Telegraph Ground in Agra. “The water in Yamuna will be purified within 15 months and citizens would be able to drink it directly from the river.
“UP is changing fast and we have stressed on a transparent working system. We have undertaken tasks costing ₹100 lakh crore nationwide to improve infrastructure,” stated Gadkari.
He claimed that roads being constructed would not have potholes for three generations.
Gadkari was confident that the Ganga would be pollution free by March 2020 as various projects costing ₹26,000 crore were on, and of the 265 projects, 65 had been completed.
“Saints coming to Prayagraj for Kumbh too have appreciated the quality of Ganga water and thanked the prime minister and my department as Ganga water is cleanest this time at Kumbh,” claimed Gadkari who advocated the idea of generating methane from waste and used as fuel for buses.
Gadkari was accompanied by minister in union cabinet Satpal Singh in Agra and Sri Kant Sharma in Mathura district.
