‘DEDICATED POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROG NEEDED’

- Raj Deepika, student

India has a population of 1.3 billion people, of which 22% live in poverty. As many as 7.6 crore people suffer from extreme poverty. These people can’t even avail basic things like food and shelter. They do not rely on the government for survival and are also unable to contribute to the economy, thus hampering the total development of the country.

Our next government must make it a priority to include such people in the mainstream by literally rescuing them from poverty. The government must implement a dedicated poverty alleviation program, focusing on poverty stricken localities of the country. There should be special efforts by the government to provide jobs, education and health care to these people so that they are able to contribute in development.
