LUCKNOW: The UP solid Waste Management Monitoring Committee appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has warned the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) , LDA and Jal Nigam to improve solid waste management in a month or face fine of Rs 1 crore.

Secretary, UP solid Waste Management Monitoring Committee Justice Rajendra Singh said, “In the meeting of various departments on Friday, the committee has given a month to improve solid waste management or get ready to face a fine.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the committee appointed by NGT went to various parts of the city to assess solid waste management.

The committee shared its findings with the departments, telling the LMC to improve the situation around 1090 crossing where the waste was dumped around Haider Canal and from Khurram Nagar to picnic spot on Kukrail where the area was full of solid waste dumped by LMC trucks.

The sewer waste is poured directly in the river Gomti at Paper mill sewage pumping station.

This is posing a threat to river Gomti as the water is supplied to residents.

The committee has also warned the Lucknow Development Authority of heavy fine if it fails to handle the solid waste management of Gomti Nagar extension area.

The Jal Nigam has been given time to improve the condition of its sewage treatment plant at Paper Mill colony or face penalty.
