VARANASI : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday called upon young engineers to develop technology for making fuel from gomutra (cow urine).
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) centenary celebrations at the institute on Saturday.
He said, “When we (BJP) formed the government in the state, many slaughterhouses were operating in the state. We prohibited them. Then, people let loose cattle on streets and fields. Now, we have started rearing these cattle. The shelter houses are being developed to keep them in the villages.”
“There is the need of technology to make fuel from gomutra. IIT-BHU should think it over. I call upon young engineers to develop a technology for making fuel from gomutra (cattle urine),” he said.He suggested biogas plants can be set up at the villages where 400 cattle were kept together. “IIT-BHU should explore the possibility of refilling methane gas into cylinders like LPG after isolating carbon dioxide from it,” he said. Hitting out at those criticising his government over the stray cattle menace, Adityanath said the (mythological) demons Mareech and Subhau used to interrupt yagyas (religious rituals) by the sage Vishwamitra in Buxar in the adjoining Bihar.Similarly, people attempted to cause disruptions when anyone tried to do good work, he said. The chief minister claimed the Ganga water flowing in Prayagraj at present was the cleanest since independence. “We cleaned it using technology. The technique is costly at present. It is necessary to make it accessible to the common man,” he said.
Noting that science could bring about revolutionary changes in people’s lives, he said technology could help check corruption. He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of the defence industrial corridor in Jhansi on February 15. Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya established Banaras Hindu University (BHU) with a vision to contemplate on building India’s future. “By giving BHU to the nation, Malviyaji did a great favour to the nation. He should have been given Bharat Ratna long back. But no one thought about it. The present government awarded Bharat Ratna to Malviya (posthumously),” Adityanath said.
He also said 9.5 crore toilets were constructed during last four years under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Besides eight lakh street lights were changed, saving revenue of Rs 250 crore annually, he added.Once all 80,000 fair price shops were equipped with e-point of sale machines, there would be annual revenue savings of Rs 700 crore, he predicted.
