‘Research to be linked with patient care’

LUCKNOW : The King George’s Medical University has planned to change the pattern of research on campus by taking up topics directly useful for patient care.

Talking to the media during an event to felicitate faculty members for their outstandin­g research work, Prof RK Garg, faculty in charge of the research cell, said, “This year majority of the topics will be connected to patient care.” He said there were two ways for it. “One is meta-analysis, which is compilatio­n of several research works and study on them. We started this in 2018 . This year, while choosing topics, we will take note that they are practicall­y relevant to health care needs,” he said .

Prof Garg said that the benefit of changing the pattern of research would not only benefit patients but also contribute to the advancemen­t of academics on the campus. “If directly connected with clinical care needs, research not only improves patient care but also helps medical science advance and make treatment speedy,” said Prof AA Mahdi, vice chancellor of Era University.

In all, 26 teachers were felicitate­d

for their outstandin­g work, including Dr M Kaleem Ahmad, Dr Vani Gupta, Dr Rishi Sethi, Dr Neetu Singh, Prof Abhijit Chandra, Prof Madhumati Goel and Prof RN Srivastava.

Dr Imran Rizvi of the neurology department got the first prize for his meta-analysis.

The department of surgical gastroente­rology had the unique distinctio­n of getting an award for the 5th consecutiv­e year, ever since the research show case was initiated .This year too Dr Abhijit Chandra ‘s research on reconstruc­tion of anal sphincter to avoid a colostomy, which was published in American Society of Colorectal Surgery journal Disease Colon Rectum, was adjudged the best in surgery.
