Hackathon on road safety held at Jaipuria institute
LUCKNOW : To raise awareness on road safety, a daylong design thinking activity ‘Hackathon on Road Safety’ was held at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow in association with Road Safety cell transport department, UP government on Saturday.
All the stakeholders especially the youth came forward to participate in the activity and suggested solutions to the Road Safety Cell Transport Department, UP government, using design thinking approach. Various NGOs also supported the cause.
The participants were supposed to ideate proto-type, test, modify and ultimately present desirable, viable and sustainable design solutions to the problems faced by the department.
Throughout the day, the participants were mentored by design thinking expert Deepak Singh and were provided constant guidance and support. Students from various colleges like Lucknow University, IMRT, Modern Girls, National PG, IILM, SRMS, and many more took active part in the event and presented innovative ideas with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The day commenced with the eminent speakers discussing about design thinking and road safety and various issues and problems faced by the Road Safety Cell were highlighted. The students interacted with design expert to understand the concept of design thinking and how it can be used to provide innovative solutions for problems in everyday life. Design thinking is extremely helpful in tackling complex problems by understanding the needs involved and by creating ideas by brainstorming and adopting a hands-on approach in prototyping and testing. The students then discussed in their teams and brainstormed ideas that could be helpful for the Road Safety Cell and after evaluating the alternatives, each team came up with a viable solution.
The teams then presented their innovative ideas and models to the Road Safety Cell.
The event was conducted in the presence of P Guru Prasad, commissioner road safety cell, transport department, UP government and Ganga Phal, additional commissioner road safety cell, transport department, UP government, Mukesh Uttam, CO Road Safety Cell, transport department, UP government, Kavita Pathak, director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow and others.
