First electric bus to be launched in city today

LUCKNOW : In a move to help cut air pollution level and provide comfortabl­e ride to people in the state capital, urban developmen­t minister, Suresh Khanna, will flag off the first electric bus in a function at Vidhan Sabha, here on Sunday.

The bus is part of planned 40 such buses which will be launched in the first phase.

The first non-polluting bus, fitted with GPS and CCTV cameras, will run between Alambagh and Viraj Khand, officials said.

“In different phases, 39 more buses will come and run on four different routes in the state capital. On the basis of success of these buses, more will be plied to ferry passengers,” they said.

According to officials, state would get 580 electric buses to run in different cities this year, once the trials remain successful in the state capital.

The fare will be between ₹15 to ₹45.

The air cooled buses have 31-seats and a capacity to carry 50 passengers at a time.
