DMs, SSPs asked to step up vigil in border districts
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has asked district magistrates and SSPs of districts bordering the neighbouring states to step up vigil to prevent bootlegging of and illicit sale of liquor in the wake of hooch tragedy.
In a joint video conference with the DMs and SSPs, chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey and director general of police OP Singh have asked them to initiate a crackdown on such traders and conduct raids with the help of excise officials.
“We want a daily report from each district about the action taken by them in this regard,” they said.
Excise officials were directed to conduct a survey of all authorized license shops, take samples of the spirits and send them for examination in their respective areas and identify the illegal ones and provide the list to the administration.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made it very clear that the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police would be held responsible if any laxity is found in carrying out the drive against these illicit shops, the officers said.
