DBT helped save ~90,000 crore, says minister

-

NEW DELHI: The government has saved about ~90,000 crore through use of information technology to roll out direct benefit transfer to targeted beneficiaries of government schemes, telecom minister Manoj Sinha said on Saturday. Use of technology and direct benefit transfer helped check leakages through identification and elimination of bogus beneficiaries, who were receiving government benefits without being eligible for it, the minister said. “We expect that the saving will grow further,” Sinha said at the function in New Delhi. Sinha, who is also the junior minister for Railways, said the BharatNet programme has taken government services to rural areas.
