Monfils hands Tsitsipas lesson in Sofia, enters semi-finals

SOFIA: Gael Monfils doled out another lesson in outstandin­g tennis, winning 93 percent of points on his first serve, as he reached the semi-finals of the Sofia Open on Friday with a 6-3 7-6(5) win over Greece’s emerging talent Stefanos Tsitsipas.

MICKELSON LEADS PACK

SAN FRANCISCO: Phil Mickelson grabbed a share of the lead on Friday in the rain-hit second round of the PGA Tour Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Mickelson added a fourunder par 68 and was on 10-under alongside Lucas Glover (66), Scott Langley (69) and England’s Paul Casey (64).

MANAMA: Indian girls bagged four medals – one gold, two silver and one bronze – at the Bahrain Junior and Cadet Open table tennis . Three teams entered the semi-finals of the cadet girls’, with the duo Suhana Saini and Anargya Manjunath winning gold, beating Yashaswini Ghorpade and Kavya Sree Baskar in the final.

SANSKRITI SCHOOL WIN

NEWDELHI: Hosts Sanskriti School, Chanakyapu­ri, won the U-13 Delhi Girls’ Football School League, beating Shiv Nadar School 3-2 in the final.

PUNJAB , RSPB IN FINAL

GWALIOR: Defending champions Punjab Saturday defeated Punjaband S ind Bank 2-0 to setup a clash against Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in the final of the ninth Senior Men’s National Hockey Championsh­ip (Division A) here.

While Punjab beat Punjab and Sind Bank in the first semifinal, RSPB got the better of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) 5-4 in shoot-out in the other last four game to enter the summitclas­h.

In the first semi-final, India internatio­nal Akashdeep Singh (8th minute) and Dharamvir Singh (39th) scored for the winners.
