LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said some politicians were using the Gandhi surname to enjoy power and to promote their politics. “They have failed to imbibe the ideals of Gandhi in real life,” he added.

Replying to debate on motion of thanks on Governor address, Adityanath said under the BJP government the state was moving fast on the path of development. “The opposition failed to extend moral support to the initiatives of the state government since they hate the prosperity of the common people. When in power, the opposition parties promoted corruption, nepotism and misrule,” he said.

“Opposition leaders who are raising finger at the state government should remember the Commonwealth scam. The illegal money was used to purchase properties in Australia and England. The probe is continuing and the truth will be before the people soon,” he said.

Hitting out at the SP-BSP alliance, the CM said the Supreme Court in an oral order said that BSP chief had to deposit public money used for erecting statues of herself and elephants (party symbol) at memorials as well as parks in Lucknow and NOIDA by the BSP government in 2007-12.

“If ‘bua’ fails to deposit the money then ‘bhatija’ will assist her in the payment. Large corruption was committed in Gomti Riverfront Development project and acquisition of land for the Purvanchal Expressway”.

Before the reply of the chief minister, the SP, BSP, the Congress walked out of the house registering protest over the death of the people in Kushinagar and Saharanpur in hooch tragedy.

Yogi said Governor Ram Naik addressing the joint sitting of legislative assembly and council on February 5 had highlighted the achievements and future development plans of the state government.

But the opposition disrupted his speech and staged a walkout today. “One of the SP MLAs fell unconscious, still the opposition MLAs continued to throw paper ball at the Governor. They dislike development in the same manner as a thief hates moonlight in the night,” he said.

Terming the 15 years of the SP and BSP rule as that of corruption, Adityanath said both the governments indulged in loot of public money and the goondas and mafia ruled the roost. Large irregularities were committed by the SP government in the allotment of the mining contract in the year 2012-17. Stone used for the construction of the memorials by the BSP government was purchased at exorbitant price, he added.

“After forming government in March 2017, the BJP government launched various development and welfare schemes. UP achieved first position in PM Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat programme, promotion of MSME. The state also performed well in Saubhagya yojana- power connection to the poor, wheat/ paddy procurement, sugarcane and milk production, providing employment to the youths under skill development scheme,” he said.
