BBAU V-C ATTACKED NEAR VARSITY CAMPUS

LUCKNOW: Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar (Central) University (BBAU) vice-chancellor NMP Verma was allegedly beaten up by unidentifi­ed people outside his residence near the university campus when he was on an evening walk on Monday.

University officials have reported the matter to Ashiana police and also intimated SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani.

Sources said the injured vice chancellor was taken to Lokbandhu Hospital for medical examinatio­n.

According RB Ram, acting registrar of the university, the incident took place outside the V-C’s residence when he was going out.

Two people with masked faces greeted the V-C from behind and when he turned, they attacked him with a wooden stick, kicking and knocking him down. They then escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Ram said when the V-C raised alarm his family came to his rescue and took him to the hospital.

Ram apprehende­d that the attack could be a conspiracy by some university teachers or staff members who wanted to harm the V-C by using the students .

SHO of Ashiana police station Brajesh Singh confirmed the incident and said,”We have received a complaint regarding the matter and will register the FIR on its basis.”
