LAWYERS TO BOYCOTT WORK TODAY
LUCKNOW/PRAYAGRAJ: Lawyers of the Allahabad high court and all subordinate courts across the state will abstain from judicial work on February 12 following a call given by Bar Council of India (BCI). The Oudh Bar Association (OBA) of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday passed a resolution unanimously deciding to boycott work. The meeting was presided over by OBA president Anand Mani Tripathi. The Central Bar Association of the district court also passed a resolution to boycott work on Tuesday. Lawyers will also stage a protest in front of Gandhi statue in Hazratganj to press for their pending demands. “The Bar Council of India (BCI) has demanded a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 for young lawyers till five years. It has also demanded life insurance cover for lawyers and pension for old lawyers,” lawyer Ashwani Singh said. The Bar Council has also demanded appointment of judges at all tribunals across the country instead of retired judges and sitting judges. In Prayagraj, chairman of Elders’ Committee VC Mishra said the lawyers would take out a procession from high court to the headquarters of Bar Council of the state at Thornhill Road.
