EOW recommends action against bank officials for forgery

LUCKNOW: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has recommended action against at least five officials of Corporation Bank, Kavinagar branch in Ghaziabad in connection with a case of forgery.

DG, EOW, RP Singh said the state home department had directed the EOW to probe a case of bank fraud in Ghaziabad. During the probe, EOW sleuths found that Rs 2,87,30,600 was transferred from the savings account of one Naresh Kumar Desai in Kavinagar branch of Corporation Bank through three fake cheques.

The money was transferred to the accounts of Ram Kumar Singh, owner of Jai Maa Steel and Vishal Sharma, owner of HP Sales.

Later, the police registered an FIR under sections 420/467/471, 120 B IPC and section 66 of the IT Act, 2008 against Vishal Sharma, Arvind Kumar, Kuldeep, Pawan Bhati, Anuj Bhati, Santosh Giri, Arun Rawat and Sughar Pal.

Following the EOW’s recommendation, the home department has shot off a letter to the chief vigilance officer, corporate office of Corporation Bank located in Mangalore for action against the bank officers, including senior manager Anil Sharma, manager Neeraj Narula, assistant manager Ashutosh Kumar, assistant manager Rashmi Pillai and single window operator Shrestha Saini for forgery, he said.

In a separate case, the EOW attached the house of one Mohan Lal, a resident of Gudamba. Singh said that an FIR was registered against Lal for grabbing and fraudulently selling a grazing ground.

During the probe, the EOW sleuths found that Lal got the grazing ground registered in his name with the assistance of a revenue department employee by committing a fraud in the land records. After registration of the FIR, he is on run.

Raids were conducted to nab him, but he managed to escape. After getting a property attachment warrant from the court, the Economic Offences Wing attached his house, said Singh.
