Six held for selling, manufactur­ing spurious liquor

LUCKNOW :Police arrested six people including two women who were found selling and preparing illicit liquor in different areas of the district on Wednesday. The arrests were made under the ongoing crackdown of district police against illegal hooch trade in the city.

Police seized 116 litres of spurious liquor and tools used to make the liquor from the accused.

The arrests were made from Para, PGI, Mall, Itaunja, Mohanlalga­nj and Malihabad police station areas.

Those arrested were identified as Rajnish Singh, Sonu, Vinod Kumar and Ajay Kumar. They were found selling spurious liquor.

Two women, one Vidhyavati and Guddi were also arrested for making spurious liquor.

at their homes. Some of these chemicals were also recovered from them by the police teams,” said SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani.

All the accused were charged with excise act and sent to prison on judicial custody.

The officer denied involvemen­t of gangs that operate the production and distributi­on of hooch.

According to police sources the operation of production and distributi­on is conducted by small groups usually comprising of family members.

The district police launched the crackdown last week after over 69 people died after consuming hooch in Kushinagar and Saharanpur districts.

“We are going to continue our drive against sale and production of spurious liquor till Holi,” said the SSP.
