Youth dies after being hit by train

LUCKNOW:A 20-year-old man died after being hit by a passenger train in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow on Wednesday, said police.

The deceased was identified as one Viru Rawat, a resident of Gwari village.

“The incident occurred at around 7.30am when Viru was trying to cross the rail tracks. He reportedly failed to notice the speeding passenger train approachin­g towards him and got hit by it,” said station house officer (SHO) of Gomti Nagar police station Ramsurat Sonkar.

The incident occurred near a manned railway crossing.

Viru was thrown several metres away from the track after being hit by the train.

A police team that reached the spot identified him with the help of his aadhar card that was found in his pocket.

“Family of the deceased was informed about the incident. Father of the deceased Vinod Rawat told us that Viru was mentally disturbed and was undergoing treatment for his condition,” said the officer. Considerin­g the mental state, police has not ruled out suicide.

The body was handed over to the family.

The family members have not lodged any police complaint regarding the matter.
